Loud, hot, shutting down?
If your console sounds like a hairdryer, throws heat warnings, or quits in the middle of a match, it is not dying — it is choking. Almost always this is dust and dried-out thermal compound, and both are fixable.
Consoles pull air through themselves constantly, and everything in the room comes along with it. Over a few years the heatsink fins pack solid with dust, and airflow drops to a trickle. Meanwhile the thermal compound between the chip and the heatsink dries out and stops moving heat efficiently.
The console responds exactly how it is designed to: it spins the fan harder, then throttles performance, then shuts itself down to avoid damage. That shutdown is the console protecting itself — which means catching this early genuinely matters.

Why it happens
Dust and time. Every console does this eventually; carpet, pets and a closed cabinet just speed it up. A console sitting in an enclosed shelf with no clearance is the classic case.
The PS5 is a special situation: Sony used liquid metal rather than paste between the chip and the heatsink. It performs better when it is right, and it needs proper handling when it is opened — not something to attempt with a YouTube video and a screwdriver set.
How we fix it
Full teardown. Every fan and heatsink comes out and gets properly cleaned rather than blasted with a can of air, which mostly just relocates dust deeper into the machine. Then fresh thermal compound goes on and it is reassembled and stress-tested to confirm temperatures and fan behavior are back to normal.
You get back a console that is quiet, cool, and no longer quitting on you mid-match. Most of these are done in one to two business days, or same-day for $40 more.

Straight answers
Can’t I just blow it out with compressed air?
It helps a little and it can hurt. Canned air tends to push dust deeper into the machine and can spin fans past their rated speed. It also does nothing about dried thermal compound, which is usually half the problem.
How often should a console be cleaned?
Every two to three years is reasonable for most people. Sooner if you have pets, carpet, or the console lives in a closed cabinet.
My PS5 uses liquid metal. Is that a problem?
Not for us. It does mean a PS5 isn’t a good candidate for a first-time DIY teardown — liquid metal has to be handled properly on reassembly or you create a much more expensive problem.
It already shut itself off. Did I damage it?
Probably not. Shutting down is the protection working as intended. Get it cleaned rather than continuing to run it hot, and it should be fine.
